Join teaching artists Kathleen Glynn and Jennifer Turnbull who will share the ideas and strategies they have developed for teaching ages 5–14 in a variety of settings. Kathleen Glynn teaches in a public school; Jennifer Turnbull teaches everywhere else. Both have field-tested ideas to share, ranging from lively academic connections, innovative use of technology in the studio, dance games, and more. Come refresh and expand your teaching!

Kathleen Glynn is a dance teacher at William C. Longstreth Elementary in West Philadelphia. She has been working for the School District of Philadelphia for the past three years, teaching a variety of dance genres to grades K-8. Kathleen is pursuing her Master’s degree in Education from Temple University. In addition to teaching, she is the Artistic Director of CoEXISTdance, Inc., a local modern dance company which focuses on blending dance with community outreach work. She has been commissioned as a guest choreographer for DeSales University in 2013 and loves to use her time as a dance teacher and as a choreographer to simply spread the happiness she finds in dancing.

Jennifer Turnbull began dancing 28 years ago, with formal training in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and West African dance. She has taught dance and visual arts for ten years to ages 5-55. The Philadelphia chapter of her teaching adventures includes work with Spiral Q Puppet Theater and the Barnes Foundation. Independently, Jennifer develops fun school-age dance curriculum that weaves academic concepts into the bodies of her students, making formal education more relevant and accessible. Most inspired by three women, her mother who ran a home-based day care for ten years and two mentors who ran the first studio she taught at, Jennifer began teaching this curriculum out of her living room. This home-based multi-purpose space existed for 18 months with a student base of 30 before she branched out. Kids movement classes began this fall at the CEC. Look out! Jennifer Turnbull also has two dance projects in the works to be debuted this coming December and January. Location: The Performance Garage1515 Brandywine StreetPhiladelphia 19130See map: Google Maps
