Full-time dance teaching: Two successful versions at the elementary level-
Melisa Putz and Katherine Paulson are both full-time teachers in Philadelphia area public schools where they have created dance programs. They will share the opportunities and realities, challenges and rewards of teaching everyday in a school setting, and will share class structures and movement ideas that have been successful.

Kathrine Paulson and Melisa Putz

Katherine Paulson is a dance artist and educator. She is a graduate of Rutgers University and Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance where she received a Masters in Dance Education. Since 2008 she has been a full-time dance educator at the Distinctions in Urban Education Season Charter School in Camden, NJ, where she started out teaching in the parking lot, and now conducts classes (indoors!)in creative dance and dance technique for students in grades K-8.


Melisa Putz
 is a dancer, choreographer and educator based in Philadelphia. She is co-founder and artistic director of PIMA Group, a non-profit dance and music performance company founded in 2001. She is currently in her fourth year of teaching dance full-time at the Chester Upland School of the Arts in Chester, PA to students in Pre-K through 5th grade. CUSA is a public/private partnership school founded on the principle of providing an arts integrated education to its students. Melisa has trained in Brain-Compatible Dance Education with Anne Green Gilbert and Childlight Yoga with Lisa Flynn.
